We’ve finally reached Week 12, the last “official” week of the program.

After spending some time with Google, we’re moving well and truly back into the Library world by looking at the phenomena of Library 2.0, for Thing 22.

Thing 23, our last Thing, is to provide some feedback on the program. There are a few suggested topics for you to consider when writing your blog post, but we’ll be pleased to get feedback on any aspect of the program.

As always, feel free to get in touch if you’ve questions or comments regarding any of the 23 Things. I know everyone’s at a different stage of the program and I’m happy to help no matter which Thing you’re up to.

This week we’re looking at Google’s personalized homepage service, iGoogle. Bring your favourite information together in the one location – things like news, weather, RSS feeds, and more. Use the “Add stuff” link to add new gadgets to your page – there are lots to choose from.

Don’t forget to blog about your experience using iGoogle – there are a few questions as prompts in the Thing itself.

This week’s Things form part one of a two-part look at some of the other online services that Google offers:

• Thing 18 – Google Maps
• Thing 19 – Google Docs
• Thing 20 – Google Book Search

Maps is the online version of Google Earth – you can link to a location from your blog (or an email!), do location searches and find directions. Docs is an online office application, offering word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations that can be accessed anywhere and edited by multiple users at the same time. Book Search is exactly what it sounds like – Google’s version of a library catalogue! And they aim to have one big library too.

This week we’re looking at the world of social networking – in particular MySpace and Facebook (though there are many others). Follow the informational links listed on the Thing 17 page and then take a look at the sites themselves.

Welcome to another week of 23 Things! We look at Flickr this week, and follow it up with a look at YouTube. (Choose a quiet time to look at YouTube – hopefully the network will be fast enough to cope!)

Both services allow users to share media – photos (primarily) in the case of Flickr, and videos in the case of YouTube. Many people are now familiar with YouTube as a source of entertainment, but it’s also a good source of educational and promotional materials – the Commoncraft videos that you’ve seen on our 23 Things site come via YouTube!

Flickr is another really useful site for educational and other purposes. Check out their Creative Commons section for images that can be legally used without copyright problems (subject to the conditions explained on the site).

This week we take a look at the online social bookmarking service delicious and the blog search engine technorati.

The area of social bookmarking in particular is one that a number of libraries have embraced as a way of sharing interesting websites with their members. Take a look at the social bookmarking page at the libsuccess wiki to see how this is being done.

This week’s Things are fairly relaxed: have some fun with online image generators, and take a look at LibraryThing. These are Things 11 & 12 respectively, which means that we’ll be just over half way through the program at the end of the week!

This week is all about wikis! First up, we take a look at what they are and how they’re being used, and then we jump straight into editing a wiki.

To access our wiki with editing rights, just follow the link that you were emailed.

Feel free to go above and beyond the set task – the wiki does look very plain at them moment and could use some brightening up!

Just the one Thing this week! We’re looking at podcasts – both audio and video. Visit Thing 8 to get started.

If you’re only going to listen to a few podcasts you’ll probably be happy subscribing with your feed reader, but it seems that iTunes is now installed as part of the new student image, so it must be OK to install it on staff machines too!

Be advised that the LibVibe podcast mentioned on the page is one of the shorter library podcasts out there, usually coming in at less than 10 minutes per episode. Some of the others can run for an hour or more!

This week we have a busy week, with three Things to get through!

First up we’ll be looking at RSS, and setting up an account with an online RSS reader. Then we’ll use our readers to subscribe to a selection of Library related blogs, before finishing up by leaving a comment on someone else’s blog.

Once you’ve written your own blog post on how all of that went, you will have completed Things 5, 6, & 7!

PS: There are quite a few staff blogs that don’t yet have a post about the Extend Your Browser tasks. Don’t forget to write one!
